During the first act, you will realize that there’s a parasite in your head and that you need to try and remove it fast. However, it’s not clear what you need to do and many players are wondering how to remove the Parasite in Baldur’s Gate 3.

There are multiple ways to try and remove it but some fail while others result in a permanent debuff.

In this guide, I will explain how to remove the parasite in BG3 and showcase the best option available.

All Ways to Remove the Parasite

“Remove the Parasite” is an early-game quest in Baldur’s Gate 3. While it’s unlocked early, it can be completed at any point as it has no time limit. Players will need to look for a way to remove the parasite, which can be found in later parts of the story.

However, there are multiple ways to try and remove it. Let’s examine each of them.

  • Ask Nettie for help – Nettie is a healer found at Druid Grove. However, she will try to poison and imprison you, so that you won’t turn into a mind flayer.
  • Ask the Goblin Priestess for help – After saving Goblin Sazza from prison, you can travel to Goblin Camp and ask the Goblin Priestess to help you. However, she will also drug and imprison you in Defiled Temple without removing the parasite.
  • Ask Auntie Ethel for help – Auntie Ethel can be found in the Sunlit Wetlands. If you ask for her help, she will fail and you’ll lose one of your eyes, thus resulting in a permanent debuff.
  • Ask Volo for help – After completing the “Rescue Volo” quest, Volo will say he can remove the parasite. While he will fail to do so, he will replace your eye with Volo’s Ersatz Eye which permanently grants you the ability to see invisible enemies.
  • Ask Abdirak for help – Abdirak can be found at the Shattered Sanctum and says he can help you. However, he won’t remove the parasite and instead will torture you, which results in a health debuff.
  • Ask Omeluum for help – Travel to the Underdark and you’ll find Omeluum, a mind flayer who says he can help you. After giving him a Tonge of Madness Mushroom and Tinmask Spores, he will fail to remove the parasite but allow you to buy a Ring of Mind-Shielding from him. To get Tonge of Madness Mushroom and Tinmask Spores, explore the secret basement as shown in our Arcane Tower guide for Baldur’s Gate 3.

While there is no way to remove the parasite, you can try to remove it and gain a useful effect in exchange. But what’s the best way to try and remove it?

Best Way to Remove the Parasite in Baldur’s Gate 3

Overall, the best way to try and remove the parasite in Baldur’s Gate 3 is to ask Volo to help you. While he won’t remove the Parasite, you’ll end up with the “see invisible” buff, which is an amazing asset to have.

With this buff, you will be able to see all invisible nearby targets. This will make progressing through the story much more interesting due to the new options available.

Asking Omeluum for help isn’t recommended as the Ring of Mind-Shielding seems to be useless story-wise. However, BG3 is a vast game and there might be some hidden meaning, so let me know if you find anything!

Wrapping up

To summarize, if you’re wondering how to remove the parasite in Baldur’s Gate 3, the short answer is that there’s no way to do it.

However, you can attempt to remove it by trusting Volo and you’ll gain a useful buff in exchange.
