We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
Erasmo Alcala Diaz, the man who pleaded guilty to felony second-degree murder for shooting his girlfriend, will appear in a sentencing hearing on Thursday.
Court documents allege that on June 11, 2015, Diaz, 58, shot and killed his girlfriend, 39-year-old Amparo Godinez Sanchez, inside the couple’s home near Wilder in front of two of their children.
Diaz then fled the scene before authorities arrived, leading Canyon County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) and federal authorities on a six-year manhunt. The search for Diaz ended when he was arrested in Mexico on June 26, 2021, by Mexican Federales with assistance from the United States Marshals Service.
He was returned to the CCSO custody in Nov. 2021 following his extradition from Mexico. Diaz has remained in the custody of the Canyon County Sheriff on a $5 million bond.
The hearing will begin at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Roker. CBS2 will update this story when more information is available.
